Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the engine oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".

Remove oil gauge (1). Note: Do not pry or gouge the sealing surface of the engine oil pan. Use a rubber mallet to tap lightly on the engine oil pan, if it is necessary.
Remove bolts (2). Remove engine oil pan (3) and the gasket. Installation Procedure

Clean the mating surface of engine oil pan (6) and the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (A) to four areas on the sealing surface of the oil pan. The areas are Marked Location (Y). The areas are at the corners of the oil pan in the following locations:
connecting joint of the front housing and the front of the cylinder block
connecting joint of the flywheel housing and the rear of the cylinder block
Install a new gasket, engine oil pan (3), and bolts (2) onto the cylinder block.
Tighten four bolts (2) at Locations (X).
Start with bolt (2) at Location (Z) and tighten all remaining bolts (2) in a counterclockwise sequence.
Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 31 1 N m (23 1 lb ft).
Start again with bolt (2) at Location (Z) and tighten all remaining bolts (2) in a counterclockwise sequence.
Tighten bolts (2) again to a torque of 31 1 N m (23 1 lb ft).
Install oil gauge (1).
Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change".
