Place a straight edge across the back of the shoes to ensure no back bending. (The straight edge MUST rest flat on the back of the track shoes.)Note: Make sure that all shoes are uniform and not bent and track links are contacting all bottom rollers.Note: Make sure that a clipped grouser is not used in this measuring procedure.

Straight edge is not resting on track shoes (1 & 2)
The straight edge must not rest on track shoe (1) or track shoe (2).
The straight edge must contact a minimum of three track shoes from track shoe (3) to track shoe (7). No more than a 1 mm (0.04 inch) gap is allowed under the straight edge at any one shoe.
Track shoe (3) through track shoe (7) must be level.Note: Track shoe (3) through track shoe (7) provide the baseline for this checking procedure.Note: To perform this procedure, digging material away from the grouser edge may be necessary. Track shoe grousers (3) through (7) must equally penetrated into the ground material (sand or gravel).

Measure the distance from the straight edge to the grouser tip beneath track shoe (1) . This distance is dimension (A).
Measure the distance from the straight edge to the grouser tip beneath track shoe (3) . This distance is dimension (B).Note: Ensure that the straight edge is not resting on track shoes (1) and (2).
Dimension (B) should be the same measurement for all track shoes (3) to (7)Note: Do not use track shoe (2) for this measurement.
Calculate the grouser tip difference (C).
Dimension (B) minus dimension (A) equal dimension (C). (B - A = C)Note: It is feasible to get a negative dimension (C). This number will occur if track grouser (1) is lower than grouser (3). Be sure to note this dimension when performing (B - A = C) calculation.
