Information:

1. Drain the oil from the transmission and bevel gear housing. The capacity is approximately 57 liter (15 U.S. gal.).2. Release the parking brake. 3. Remove nut (1) that holds the brake drum in position. Remove bolt (2) that holds the lock in position. Remove lock (3). 4. Remove brake drum (4) from the splines. The weight is 22 kg (48 lb.). 5. Loosen but do not remove nuts (7) and (11) and bolts (5) and (12).6. Remove spring (10) that holds the brake shoes against the cam.7. Remove pin (8) and brake shoe (6).8. Remove pin (9) and brake shoe (13). 9. Remove cotter pin (16), pin (14) and roller (15) from each of the brake shoes. 10. Disconnect the control linkage (19) for the parking brake.11. Remove six nuts (18) and washer from plate (17). Remove plate (17). 12. Remove the two seals from plate (17) with tooling (A). Remove O-ring seal (20). 13. Remove bolt (21) and lever (22) from the cam. Remove the key from the shaft. Remove cam (23) from the plate. 14. Remove sleeve (24) for the oil seals.15. Shims (25) are for the pinion bearing preload on the pinion shaft. It is not necessary to remove the shims.Install Parking Brake
Shims (1) are for the pinion bearing preload.1. Install sleeve (2) for the oil seals on the shaft. 2. Slide cam (6) through plate (5). Install the key in the cam. Make an alignment of the groove in lever (3) with the key in the cam. Install lever (3). Install bolt (4) that holds the lever to the cam.3. Make the adjustment for the pinion bearing preload as follows: a) Remove original shims (1). b) Install plate (5) against the pinion shaft bearing cage without the seals in it.c) Install the nuts that hold the plate in position and tighten the nuts to a torque of 14 N m (10 lb. ft.).d) Measure the distance between the bearing cage and the plate in four places with a feeler gauge.e) Remove the plate and install shims equal to the average measured clearance minus 0.05 0.03 mm (.002 .001 in.). 4. Install the two seals in plate (5) with tooling (A). Make sure the lips of the seals are toward the transmission. Put SAE 30W oil on the lips of the seals.5. Install the O-ring seal on the other side of the plate. Put plate (5) in position and install the washers and nuts that hold it in place. 6. Put rollers (8) in position in the brake shoes. Install pin (7). Install cotter pins (9) that hold the pins in place.7. Install control linkage (16) for the parking brake. 8. Put brake shoe (11) in position on the plate. Make an alignment of the flat spot on pin (12) with bolt (10). Install pin (12).9. Connect spring (14) to brake shoe (11).10. Put brake shoe (17) in position on the plate. Make an alignment of the flat spot on pin (13)
