Inspect
Note: On new machines or after replacing rotary ax blades or rotor bar, inspect retaining hardware after initial 15 minutes of operation. Also inspect after initial 4 hours of operation and initial 8 hours of operation.Block the rotary ax away from the ground. Make sure that the rotary ax is securely blocked. Make sure that the hydraulic lines are disconnected from any machine. Connect the hydraulic lines together in order to ensure that no pressure exists in the system. Inspect the blades for dull conditions or damaged conditions.If the blades are dull or the blades are damaged, replace the blades.Replace
In order to replace the rotary ax blades, use the following procedure:Replace Rotary Ax Blades

Remove the plate (A) that covers the access hole on the top of the rotary ax.

Manually move rotor bar (B) until blade is lined up with access hole (C) .

Insert a socket through the access hole in order to remove worn or damaged blades. Inspect blade pins (D) and retaining screws for cracks, broken edges, or any other damage that could cause imbalance. Replace if necessary.

Inspect rotor bar (E). Verify that bar is straight, balanced, and has no cracks. Note: Before replacing blades, verify that bar chambers, chamber holes, blade pins, blade retaining screws, and dowel wedges are clean and undamaged.Note: Replacement blades must weigh within a half ounce of each other. Unbalanced blades create vibration.Note: To maintain proper balance when replacing blades with used blade pins, verify that the worn area on each pin is rotated to the same position in the rotor bar chamber.

Mount new blade and pin (F) into rotor bar chamber. Note: Verify that pin is inserted into chamber and blades are free swinging.

Mount retaining hardware and dowel wedges from top of rotor bar through pin by hand tightening hardware in the order shown.
Assemble the new blade, the bolt, the lock washer, and the nut to the carrier. Torque the nuts to 698 80 N m (515 59 lb ft). Note: If blade retaining screws keep working loose, check rotor bar chambers and blade pins for wear. Replace if necessary.
Confirm that blades rotate freely.
Install the plate that covers the access hole on the top of the rotary ax.
