Remove the stick.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.

Make sure that boom (1) is in a level position.
Disconnect the rod end of the boom cylinders from the boom. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom Cylinder - Remove and Install".
Release hydraulic system pressure.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to boom (1). The combined weight of boom (1) and of the stick cylinder is approximately 2041 kg (4500 lb). Apply slight lifting tension to boom (1).

Remove guard assembly (2).

Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and harness assembly (3).
Remove nut (5).

Remove bolts (6) and plate (7).

Attach Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device to boom foot pin assembly (9), as shown. The combined weight of boom foot pin assembly (9) and of Tooling (B) is approximately 266 kg (587 lb).
Use Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and the suitable lifting device to remove boom foot pin assembly (9).
Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting device to remove boom (1).
Remove spacers (8) (not shown).Installation Procedure
Install boom (1) in the reverse order of removal.
Apply a thin coat of Tooling (D) to the bores of the upper frame and to boom foot pin assembly (9).
Use Tooling (E) to install boom foot pin assembly (9).
