When reporting the repair, use "PS5614" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the July 28, 1999 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the TERMINATION DATE, Problem, Affected Product, Parts Needed, Action Required, Service Claim Allowances, and Parts Disposition.

Boom lift cylinder brackets may initiate a crack on 5230 Front Shovels and 5230 Mass Excavators. Booms with cracks in the lift cylinder brackets should be replaced with updated replacement booms.

The claim may not be paid if proof of boom distruction is not supplied to Shovel - Product Support in Decatur as described in the Parts Disposition.
1. Perform a visual inspection of the boom lift cylinder brackets for cracks.2. Repair all cracks found from visual inspection.3. Contact Shovel Product Support to schedule new boom delivery. Delivery will be scheduled on severity of failure and availability. Phone: (217) 475-57954. Order boom directly from Morton using part number 108-5784 for Front Shovel or part number 115-5417 for Mass Excavator.5. Remove 108-5784 or 115-5417 Boom from 5230 Excavator. Destroy old boom by cutting into at least 6 sections. Include the following:...Cut lengthwise completely around the boom ensuring cuts through the foot and nose castings. ...Cut circumference around both boom and stick cylinder castings ensuring all bell castings are cut in half. ...Send boom destruction data sheets, photograph of pieces, and the part/sequence number plate from side of boom to Shovel Product Support at:
