Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove two bolts (2) and the two washers from elbow (5) that connect to the water pump.
Loosen two hose clamps (1). Remove elbow (5), hose clamps (1), and hose (4) .
Remove gasket (6) and the washers.
Remove four bolts (7) and the four washers that secure engine oil cooler (3) to the engine oil filter base.
Remove the engine oil cooler.
Remove O-ring seals (8) from the engine oil filter base.

Remove coupling (10) from the engine oil cooler.
Remove O-ring seals (9) from the coupling.

Remove bolt (12) and the washer. Remove bolts (16) and the washers. Remove elbow (17) for the engine oil cooler and O-ring seal (11) .
Remove bolt (14) and the washer. Remove bolts (19) and the washers. Remove oil cooler bonnet (15) and O-ring seal (18) .
Use a rod with the appropriate diameter in order to clean the tube bundle assembly inside core assembly (13) .Installation Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Install O-ring seal (18), oil cooler bonnet (15), bolts (19), the washers, bolt (14) and the washer to core assembly.
Install O-ring seal (11), elbow (17) for the engine oil cooler, bolts (16), the washers, bolt (12) and the washer.

Install O-ring seals (9) to coupling (10) .Note: Lubricate the bore of the elbow for the engine oil cooler. Also, lubricate the bore of the block. Use glycerin or an approved equivalent.

Install O-ring seals (8) on the engine oil filter base.
Position gasket (6) and elbow (5) to the water pump.Note: Install gasket (6) with the bead toward elbow (5) .
Install the washers and bolts (2) .
Connect hose (4) to the engine oil cooler.
Position engine oil cooler (3) on the engine oil filter base.Note: Before the engine oil cooler is placed on the engine oil filter base, place hose clamps
