Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Note: The procedure to remove one boom cylinder is shown. The procedure to remove the other boom cylinder is identical.
Relieve the system hydraulic pressure. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Release of Pressure in the Hydraulic System".
Disconnect two hose assemblies (15) and (16).
Fasten a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to boom cylinder (14). Remove eight bolts (18) and the eight plated washers. Remove two plates (19) and two spacers (20).
Assemble Tooling (B) and (D) according to Illustration 1. The approximate weight of Tooling (B) and (D) is 270 kg (600 lb). Attach Tooling (B) and (D) to the right hand side of pin (21). Use Tooling (A) , (B) and (D) to pull pin (21) until the rod end of boom cylinder is free. Do not remove pin (21) completely.
Remove bolt (26), washer (24) and washer (25).
Assemble Tooling (B) and (C) according to Illustration 1. The approximate weight of Tooling (B) and (C) is 270 kg (600 lb). Attach Tooling (B) and (C) to pin (23). Use Tooling (B) , (C) and (D) to pull pin (23) from swing frame (17). Remove shims (22). Remove boom cylinder (14) from the machine. The weight of boom cylinder (14) is 1310 kg (2900 lb).
