The Electronic Control Module (ECM) may lose the data for the clock when the ECM is disconnected from the vehicle battery.The Real Time Clock (RTC) in the ECM may need to be reset if the battery has been disconnected during maintenance. The ECM on some vehicles may lose the correct time and the correct date when the ECM is disconnected from the vehicle battery. Solution
If the battery was disconnected during maintenance, check the RTC for the correct time and for the correct date. If necessary, reset the RTC with a service tool.
Open Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).
Select the "Service" tab and open the drop-down menu.
Select the "ECM Date/Time" menu item.A screen will appear with the date and time.
Select the "Change" button that is located in the bottom left corner of the screen.This button will allow you to set the date manually. The "Change" button also allows you to synchronize the RTC with the clock on the computer.Note: Step 5 is optional.
Select the "Get PC Date/Time" button in order to synchronize the RTC with the clock on the computer.
