Emergency and Parking Brake
Testing Parking Brake (Brake Fully Applied)
1. With the engine running pull the emergency and parking brake control valve out to apply the brake.2. Shift the powershift transmission to second speed forward.3. Depress the governor control pedal and the machine should not move. If it does; check the discs and plate wear and the force of the apply springs. The minimum permissible stacked height of 3 plates and 4 discs is 1.394 in. (34,26 mm).
EMERGENCY AND PARKING BRAKE
1. Apply spring. 2. Plate. 3. Release bolts. 4. Disc. 5. Cover. 6. Oil passage. 7. Release piston. 8. Transfer gear shaft.Testing Emergency Brake (Apply Pressure)
1. With the accumulator fully charged, emergency and parking brake in release position and the engine shut down, apply the service brakes repeatedly and note the test gauge reading at which the emergency brake applies. The brake should apply at 750 psi (52,7 kg/cm2). If it does not, check the force of apply spring.Electric Warning System
ELECTRIC SYSTEM SCHEMATIC
7. Normally open pin. 8. Normally closed pin. Before beginning any test of the electric warning system, check all electrical connections and grounds to assure good contact.Leave the accumulator oil pressure test gauge connected.Brake Pressure Warning Indicator
BRAKE PRESSURE INDICATOR1. Start the diesel engine, release the parking brakes, allow the accumulator to charge to cut-out pressure.2. Shut the engine down but leave the disconnect switch on.3. Depress the brake pedal repeatedly and note the test gauge reading at which the ball shifts from green to red.4. The pressure switch should open and the indicator should shift at 750 psi (52,7 kg/cm2). If the indicator does not shift (remains green), turn off the master disconnect switch. If the indicator shifts only when the master disconnect switch is turned off, replace the brake pressure switch. If the indicator remains green with low brake pressure and no current flow the indicator is defective and should be replaced.
BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCHElectric Warning Horn
1. Connect a 0 to 10 psi (0 to 0,7 kg/cm2) test gauge to the inlet manifold.2. Apply the parking brake.3. With the powershift transmission in third speed forward, depress the governor pedal and note the inlet manifold pressure at which the switch closes and the warning horn sounds. The horn should begin sounding at 1.5 psi (0,1 kg/cm2) manifold pressure. If not, proceed as follows:4. Check continuity through the normally closed side of the 750 psi (52,7 kg/cm2) pressure switch. Current should flow. If the switch is open, install a new switch.5. Check closing pressure of the 1.5 psi (0,1 kg/cm2) normally open manifold pressure switch. If the switch does not close at the specified pressure, install a new switch.
SOLID STATE SWITCH6. If the trouble still has not been found, check the horn by grounding the negative lead (the negative lead connects to the solid state switch). The horn should sound.7. If the two pressure switches and the horn operate properly, the trouble lies in the solid state switch. Install a new solid state switch.Bleeding Brake System
