Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the expansion tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Expansion Tank - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Disconnect harness assembly (6) for the coolant temperature sensor.
Disconnect hose (3) from housing manifold (2) .
Remove bolts (4). Remove pipe (5), water temperature regulator housing (1), and housing manifold (2) .

Remove water temperature regulator housing (1) from housing manifold (2). Remove O-ring seal (8) and O-ring seal (7) from the housing manifold.
Remove water temperature regulator (9) .
Remove lip seal (11) .
Remove pipe (5) from the water temperature regulator housing. Remove O-ring seals (10) .Installation Procedure

Use Tooling (A) to install lip seal (11) in water temperature regulator housing (1) .
Install O-ring seals (10) on pipe (5). Apply Tooling (B) to the O-ring seals. Install the pipe in the water temperature regulator housing.
Install O-ring seal (7) and O-ring seal (8) on housing manifold (2) .
Install water temperature regulator (9) in the water temperature regulator housing.

Install pipe (5) in the water pump. Position water temperature regulator housing (1) and housing manifold (2) and install bolts (4).
Connect hose (3) .
Connect harness assembly (6) for the coolant temperature sensor.End By: Install the expansion tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Expansion Tank - Remove and Install".
