Position the front axle under the machine.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the front axle assembly. The weight of the front axle assembly is approximately 1495 kg (3295 lb). Raise the front axle assembly to the front frame.

Apply Tooling (D) to the threads of bolts (9) prior to assembly. Install 12 bolts (9) , and nuts (10) that attach the front axle to the front frame.
Tighten nuts (10) to a torque of 700 90 N m (520 65 lb ft).
Install 16 locknuts (11) .

Note: Prior to assembly, wipe the threads, the mounting surfaces of the bearing caps and the mounting surfaces of the yoke. Make sure both the mounting surfaces are clean.
Position spider assembly (8) to yoke (6) .
Install four bolts (7) . Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 80 15 N m (60 11 lb ft). Use the numerical sequence shown in Illustration 4.
Remove one bolt (7) according to the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 4.
Apply Tooling (B) and then Tooling (C) to the threads of bolt (7) prior to installation. Reinstall bolt (7) and tighten to a torque of 160 15 N m (120 11 lb ft).
Repeat step 8 and 9 for the remaining bolts (7) .

Connect hose assemblies (3) , (4) and (5) .

Connect vent hose assembly (1) .
Fill the front differential and final drive assemblies. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the front axle housing and the final drive assemblies. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (With Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" or Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil (Without Axle Oil Cooler) - Change" for the correct filling procedure.
Purge the air from the braking system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Braking System Air - Purge".
Check the oil level of the hydraulic system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".End By:
Remove the bucket control safety pins. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Control Safety Pins - Remove and Install."
Install the front tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim - Install".
Remove the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".
