Pressurized system: Hot oil can cause serious burns. To open plug, stop engine, wait until axle is cool. Then loosen plug slowly to relieve the pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Perform this procedure on one axle at a time.

Position the wheels so that the final drive drain plug (1) is in the lowest position. This will ensure that the final drive filler plug (2) is in the correct position.
Push the button on the top of each axle breaker relief valve in order to relieve any pressure.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Axle Breaker Relief Valve - Clean" for the axle breaker relief valve locations.
Remove the final drive plug (1) and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug.
Repeat steps 2 through 4 for the other final drive.

Rear axle
Remove the differential drain plug (3) and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug.
Remove differential filler plug (4). .Fill the differential with SAE 50 oil until the oil level reaches the bottom of the filler plug opening.
Clean the filler plug and install the filler plug.
Remove the final drive filler plug (2). Fill the final drive with SAE 50 oil until the oil level reaches the bottom of the filler plug opening.
Clean the filler plug and install the filler plug.
Repeat steps 10 through 11 for the other final drive.Note: Fill each axle with 4.7 L (5 qt) of 1U-9891 Additive.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the refill capacity of each axle.
If the specified amount of oil will not fit in the final drives, install the final drive filler plugs. Operate the machine on level ground for a few minutes in order to equalize the oil level. Remove the final drive filler plugs and add the remaining oil.
Operate the machine for a few minutes and recheck the oil level. The oil level should reach the bottom of the filler plug opening.If the oil level is higher than the filler plug opening, do not allow the oil to drain to the proper level. Install the filler plug.
Repeat this procedure for the other differential and final drives.
