Remove the final drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Remove and Install".
Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a pressure system.Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.Do not remove or disconnect hoses or fittings until all pressure in the air system has been relieved.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Apply the foot brake valve several times in order to relieve the pressure in the brake system.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid system.

Remove three bolts (1) and the washers that secure cover (2) to the machine.

Remove the eight bolts, the washers, and the four half clamps that secure hose assemblies (3). Remove the two O-rings from the hose assemblies.
Disconnect hose assembly (4). Remove the O-ring from the hose assembly.
Attach Tooling (A), appropriate nylon lifting slings, and a hoist to the assembly.
Remove 26 bolts (5) and the washers that secure the spindle to axle housing (6). Remove the spindle, the service brake, and the wheel from the machine. The weight of the assembly is 380 kg (838 lb).
Remove Tooling (A) from the assembly.
Remove the O-ring from the spindle.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
Lubricate O-ring seals with an appropriate lubricant.
Install the O-ring to the spindle.

Attach Tooling (A), appropriate nylon lifting slings, and a hoist to the assembly.
Place the spindle, the service brake, and the wheel into position on the machine. The weight of the assembly is 380 kg (838 lb). Install 26 bolts (5) and the washers that secure the spindle to axle housing (6). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 430 60 N m (317 44 lb ft).
Install the O-ring to hose assembly (4). Connect the hose assembly.
Install the two O-rings to hose assemblies (3). Install the eight bolts, the washers, and the four half clamps that secure the hose assemblies.

Place cover (2) into position on the machine. Install three bolts (1) and the washers that secure the cover.
Check the level of the hydraulic fluid. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7064 for the proper procedure.End By: Install the final drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Remove and Install".
