Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly , "Crankcase Guard - Remove". Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Drain the cooling system coolant into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

Remove bolts (1) in order to swing the guard and fuel cooler (2) open. Disconnect hose assemblies (3). Use two people in order to remove the guard and fuel cooler (2). Remove shields (4).

Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (6).

Disconnect hose assemblies (7) and (8).

Remove bracket (10) from axle oil cooler (9).

Attach a suitable lifting device to axle oil cooler (9). The weight of axle oil cooler (9) is approximately 95 kg (210 lb).
Remove bonnet (11).

Remove six bolts (12).
Slide the axle oil cooler (9) toward the radiator in order to remove the axle oil cooler.
