Basic Diagram of Power Train System
The transmission control lever selects the desired speed and direction.
The transmission speed sensor measures the rpm of the transmission output shaft which relates to the machine ground speed.
The transmission control for the wheel tractor determines when a shift is needed from the following controls:
The signals from the transmission hold switch
The signals from the speed sensor
The signals from the transmission
The signals from the positions of the shift lever
When the transmission hold switch is activated, the switch inhibits all automatic upshifts. The transmission hold switch is used in the test mode. Unless the engine is in an underspeed condition, automatic downshifts will be inhibited. SEVENTH through SECOND speeds are inhibited unless the engine is in an underspeed condition. When the engine is underspeed, the transmission will then downshift.
When an upshift solenoid or a downshift solenoid is activated, the solenoids will deliver pressure oil to the rotary actuator. The rotary actuator then turns the rotary selector spool. The previous sequence will determine engagement of the necessary clutches for the next speed.
The transmission switch informs the transmission control of the actual speed of the transmission. The transmission switch informs the transmission when the start of a shift should occur. The transmission switch informs the transmission when the stop of a shift should occur.
The transmission hydraulic control individually controls the following functions:
Fill time
Modulation time
Decay time for the clutch
Maximum pressure to each clutch

Basic Diagram of the Power Train SystemThe power train consists of three basic systems:
Transmission control (electrical system)
Torque converter and transmission
Differential and final drivesThese three basic systems connect to each other in one of the following ways:
Electrical connection
Hydraulic connection
Magnetic connection
Mechanical connection

The selection of SECOND speed through EIGHTH speed may be performed manually. The selection of SECOND speed through EIGHTH speed may also be performed by the
