Component Code(s) 1068, 1062 SUBJECT: The exhaust muffler may crack due to incorrect installation or incorrect length of the studs that secure the air inlet dust ejector tube.
PROBLEM: Studs of an incorrect length may have been fitted or the threaded portions of the stud are of unequal length and the longer portion of thread may have been installed into the flange. The resulting tension may cause cracking in the area where the dust ejector tube enters the muffler.

Note: Either the dust ejector tube will be installed, or there will be a blanking plate installed to the flange.
SOLUTION:

Check that the studs (1) do not come into contact with the base (2) of the muffler behind the flange. If the studs are in contact with the base of the muffler, remove each stud and check that the overall length of the stud is correct. If the length of the stud is incorrect, replace the stud with the correct 6F-7012 Stud. Refer to Illustration 3.

Check that the correct end of the stud was installed into the flange. The end that has a shorter length of thread must be installed into the flange.
Check the protruding length (A) of the studs. Length (A) should be 25.4 mm (1 inch).
