The engine delivers 157 kW (210 hp) at 2200 RPM. The 3306B combines several features such as the following components: direct injection fuel system, turbocharger, aftercooler and extended life coolant. The engine is mounted in the rear of the machine. This location provides the effect of a rear counterweight.The 3306B DI TA MUI is designed for fuel economy, low emission and durability. Emissions are reduced significantly in order to meet the stringent regulations of the following nations: United States, Europe and Japan.

The muffler sits underneath the hood at the rear of the machine. The rear corners of the machine hood are rounded in order to aid visibility. Four ROPS posts increase the protection of the operator. Also, the four ROPS posts strengthen the machine frame. The cab structure uses bar stock for added strength and for added weight. FORWARD right turnThe 973C Track Loader is equipped with variable displacement piston pumps and with variable displacement piston motors. The electronic control module (ECM) regulates the displacement of the drive pumps and of the drive motors in order to control the machine speed. A separate oil tank for hydrostatic drive allows easy checking of the power train oil system.

The parking brakes are not used to stop the machine. Slowing the machine is done by reducing the flow of oil from the drive pumps to the drive motors. Stopping the machine is done by stopping the flow of oil from the drive pumps to the drive motors. Braking of the machine is caused by hydrostatic braking of the motors that drive the tracks. When the machine has stopped, the spring applied parking brakes are applied.

The 973C uses an electronic control module (ECM) in order to regulate the hydrostatic drive system. This ECM diagnoses the hydrostatic drive system. The system uses the ECM in order to monitor the demands for power. This provides the following benefits: maximum efficiency, fuel economy and extended life of power train components.
