Perform the following steps at the beginning of the commissioning process after the installation of the generator set. Periodically repeat this procedure throughout the operational life of the generator set.

Measuring tool
Use a long-stemmed screwdriver to construct a measuring tool. Mark the measuring tool with a measurement pattern like a ruler. Refer to Illustration 1.

Checking the clearance between the fan blade tips and the shroud.
Use the measuring tool to verify that the clearance between the fan and the shroud is evenly spaced completely around the circumference of the fan.
Check the clearance at the 2, 5, 8, and 11 o'clock positions. Check the clearance at a point nearest to the tip of the fan blade at those positions.
Use the following steps to adjust the shroud as needed.
Loosen the bolts on each side of the radiator.
Loosen the bolts on the top and the bottom of the shroud.
Raise or lower the shroud as needed.
Retighten the all the bolts.
Use the measuring tool to confirm that the measurement of spacing between the fan blades, the radiator, and the guard, both fore and aft, is greater than 45 mm (1.8 inch)45mm.

Use 144-0235 Belt Tension Gauge and the 7N-9693 Tension Chart in the following Specifications manuals to verify belt tension:
