Terminal Box Remove
Note: Some service operations do not require the removal of the complete generator terminal box.The rear bearing bracket and the rear generator bearing can be serviced with out removal of the terminal box. Removal of only the side and rear panels of the terminal box may be needed in order to gain access to the desired components. If the removal of the terminal box needed, then refer to the "Terminal Box Remove and Install" section of this document. Use a suitable lifting device in order to remove the terminal box.The safety procedures that are discussed in the "General Information" section of this publication must be followed in order to safely service the equipment.

1400 and 1600 Frame Single Bearing Generator Removal
High density plastic strips may need to be placed between the main stator and the main rotor in order to protect the components when the generator is disassembled from the engine. Damage may occur to the components upon disassembly if the rotor is allowed to drop against the stator.
The minimum length of the protective strips must be the length of the main rotor. The protective strips must be the correct thickness in order to allow support of the rotor during the removal of the generator end bracket and in order to allow support of the rotor after the generator end bracket has been removed. Ensure that the strips are directly under to rotor pole heads. The protective strips will assist in maintaining rotor alignment with the generator end bracket, in order to allow the housing to be removed.
If a single bearing generator is equipped with a PMG, then the PMG exciter stator must be removed before the front support of the generator rotor is removed. That is, the PMG exciter stator must be removed before the rotor is allowed to rest on the plastic strips that are placed between the main rotor and the main stator. The air gap clearance on the PMG components is not sufficient in order to prevent the rotor shaft damage.
