Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. The modulating valve is located behind left hand door assemblies (1) and (2).
Right side of torque converter2. Disconnect wire harness (3) at the electrical connection. 3. Remove two bolts (4), the washers, modulating valve (5) and the O-ring seal from the torque converter housing. The following steps are for the installation of the modulating valve.4. Make sure all components of the modulating valve are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to installation.5. Check all components for wear or damage and replace if necessary.6. Install modulating valve (5), the O-ring seal, two bolts (4) and the washers to the torque converter housing.7. Connect wire harness (3) at the electrical connection.8. Check the oil level in the transfer case assembly. The capacity of the transfer case assembly is 96 L (25 U.S. gal). Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before operating any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.Start By:a. remove modulating valve 1. Position the modulating valve as shown. Remove nipple assembly (2), locknut (5), spacer (4), and coil assembly (3) from modulating valve (1). 2. Remove O-ring seal (6) from nipple assembly (2). 3. Remove cartridge assembly (7) from modulating valve (1). 4. Remove O-ring seal (8), seat (11), and ball (9) from cartridge assembly (7). Remove O-ring seal (10) from seat (11). 5. Remove spool assembly (13) and spring (12) from modulating valve (1). The following steps are for assembling the modulating valve.6. Make sure that all the components of the modulating valve are clean of dirt and foreign material prior to assembly. Check all components for wear or damage and replace if necessary.7. Lubricate all O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant being sealed.8. Install spring (12) and spool assembly (13) to modulating valve (1).9. Install O-ring seal (10) to seat (11). Install O-ring seal (8), ball (9), and seat (11) to cartridge assembly (7).10. Install cartridge assembly (7) to modulating valve (1). Tighten cartridge assembly (7) to a torque of 50 5 N m (37 4 lb ft).11. Install O-ring seal (6) to nipple assembly (2).12. Install nipple assembly (2), coil assembly (3), spacer (4), and locknut (5) on modulating valve (1). Tighten nipple assembly (2) to a torque of 14 4 N m (10 3 lb ft).End
