Typical ExampleUse this procedure to check for proper clutch assembly. Do not use a puller to remove rotor (7) from the clutch assembly.Remove bearing (1), disc (2), gear assembly (3), ring (4), gear assembly (5), disc (6), rotor (7), race and bearing (8) and carrier (9) from the clutch group assembly. 1. Position the assembled clutch group with the shaft in the vertical position and the clutch pack to be measured facing upward.2. Make sure the discs and the plates on the clutch pack to be measured move freely on the hub assembly (10).3. Position the tip of a dial indicator on the side of the plate or disc closest to hub assembly (10) and zero the indicator.
Personal injury can result from applying air pressure without lock ring securely in place. Make sure lock ring (11) is securely in place before applying air pressure to clutch pack.
4. Apply approximately 140 kPa (20 psi) air pressure to appropriate passage (13) for clutch pack (12).5. The plate or disc closest to hub assembly (10) will move towards the hub assembly. Determine the distance the plate or disc moved from the reading on the dial indicator. This is the clutch pack running clearance. Use this same procedure to determine the clutch pack running clearances for the existing clutch assemblies. Use the same procedures shown to check the running clearances for the existing clutch packs.Clutch Pack Running Clearances

The most effective way to measure for clutch wear is to disassemble the clutch pack and individually measure each disc for wear.
