Components of hydraulic pump (1) Bearing. (2) O-ring seals. (3) Passage to the outlet. (4) Manifold assembly. (5) Idler gear. (6) Drive gear. (7) Body. (8) Lip seal. (9) Drive shaft. (10) Cover.Drive shaft (9) has splines. The splines connect the drive shaft to a gear inside the flywheel housing. Drive gear (6) turns idler gear (5). The oil from the steering clutch and bevel gear case flows through manifold assembly (4) into the inlet side of the oil pump. The oil flows through a passage into the inlet side of body (7). The oil fills the space between the teeth of the gears. The oil is carried to the outlet side of the body. When the gears mesh, the oil is expelled. The oil exits through passage (3) of manifold assembly (4). The pressure oil from the oil pump flows to the transmission oil filter.Note: Air is present in the oil pump when the engine is not running. When the engine is started, air in the pump is vented through a vent line on the hydraulic line to the torque converter. This vent line keeps air out of the hydraulic system components.
