Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot high coolant pressure or use this procedure if the following event code is active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes. You must access the engine monitoring system on Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to view the current trip points for these codes. For information on the engine monitoring system, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System".

Open Circuit in the Harness Wiring for the Coolant Pressure Switch (Inlet)
If an E224(3) High Jacket Water Inlet Pressure Shutdown is present, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) is detecting an open in the circuit for the coolant pressure switch (inlet). Check the wiring for damage or corrosion. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".If a problem with the wiring for the circuit is found, repair the wiring, as needed.Excessive Pressure in the Engine Cooling System
The pressure switch at the inlet of the jacket water coolant pump is designed to open across the "B" and "C" terminals at a pressure of 462 41 kPa (67 6 psi). Use a gauge to check the pressure at the inlet to the cylinder block.Be sure to use an accurate gauge for your measurements. Use of gauges that are not properly calibrated can lead to an improper diagnosis of the problem.If the pressure is less than 462 41 kPa (67 6 psi) but the E224 event code is occurring, replace the pressure switch.If a pressure of at least 462 41 kPa (67 6 psi) is measured at the inlet to the cylinder block, the high pressure may be caused by a restriction in the jacket water system. Inspect the system for restrictions. Perform the necessary repairs.
