GASKET 7W3269 - Caterpillar

Use this procedure to troubleshoot a suspected problem with the fuel metering valve. Use this procedure if one of the following event codes are active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes. Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to view the current trip points for these codes. For information on the engine monitoring system, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System".

Description Conditions which Activate the Code System Response
E867(1) Improper Gas Flow Control Valve Response The fuel metering valve is not responding correctly to the Electronic Control Module (ECM). The code is logged.
The alarm output is activated.
E868(1) Gas Flow Control Valve Malfunction The ECM has detected a malfunction of the fuel metering valve. Probable Causes
Low supply voltage to the fuel metering valve
Internal failure of the fuel metering valve
Check the fuel metering valve for blockage Recommended Actions
Low Supply Voltage to the Fuel Metering Valve
Check the supply voltage at the harness connector for the fuel metering valve. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Fuel Metering Valve - Test".If the system voltage is low, refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Power Supply - Test".Perform the necessary repairs.Internal Failure of the Fuel Metering Valve
Check the fuel metering valve for an internal mechanical failure:Shut off the fuel supply. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel metering valve. Visually inspect the internal mechanism of the valve. Check for binding due to dirt and/or to contamination. Check for binding due to wear of internal components.Clean the valve, if necessary.Check the Fuel Metering Valve for Blockage
With the battery disconnected, move the valve indicator dial toward the sensor box. The indicator dial should move 70 degrees. If the indicator does not move, clean the valve and check the fuel for contamination.
