Schematic of the load check functionThis diagnostic code is associated with the load check function.FMI 05 is recorded when the transmission electronic control module senses an open in the relay's circuit.Note: The following procedure may cause additional diagnostic codes. Ignore the additional diagnostic codes. Clear the additional diagnostic codes after FMI 05 has been cleared.FMI 05 is present. The load check function is disabled.Test Step 1. CHECK THE RELAY.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Remove the load check relay.
Measure the resistance from contact 2 to contact 1.Expected Result:The resistance is 300 20 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance is 300 20 ohms. The relay is functioning properly. Proceed to test step 2.
NO - The resistance is not 300 20 ohms. The relay has failed.Repair: Replace the relay. Stop.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS.
Clean the relay.
Install the relay.
Verify that the key start switch is in the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the control module.
Measure the resistance from contact 37 to contact 39 at the machine harness connector.Expected Result:The resistance is 300 20 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance is 300 20 ohms. The relay is functioning properly. The cause of the problem has not been isolated. Proceed to test step 3.
NO - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The circuit is open. The return wire 571-OR is open or the signal wire 975-WH is open.Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness. Stop.Test Step 3. VERIFY THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS PRESENT.
Verify that the key start switch is in the OFF position.
Inspect the connectors and inspect the contacts.
Connect the machine harness to the control module.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Enter the service mode.
Operate the machine.
Check the diagnostic indicator. Note the active diagnostic codes.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is active.Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is active. The condition has not been corrected. The transmission electronic control module may have failed. Proceed to test step 4.
NO - The diagnostic code is not active. The diagnostic code was caused by a poor electrical connection.Repair: Clear the diagnostic code. Stop.Test Step 4. VERIFY THAT THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE HAS FAILED.
Verify that the key start switch is in the ON position.
Verify that the diagnostic code is present. Verify that the diagnostic code is active.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Verify that the diagnostic code is present. Verify that the diagnostic code is active.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is active.Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is active. The transmission electronic control module has failed. Repair: Replace the transmission electronic control module. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Stop.
NO - The diagnostic code is not active. Clear the diagnostic code. Stop.
