Connections of the main power relay
This diagnostic code is associated with the main power relay. The FMI 05 means that the ECM has determined that the current of the relay is below normal. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energize circuit of the relay is open.
The return circuit of the relay is open.
The relay has failed.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3467 - FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. Check the relay
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the relay.
At the connector for the relay, measure the resistance of the coil between contact "1" and contact "2". Expected Result:The resistance of the relay coil should measure approximately 50 5 ohms at 25° C (77° F). Results:
YES - The resistance measurement of the relay coil is within the acceptable range. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The resistance measurement of the relay coil is not within the acceptable range.Repair: The relay coil is not correct. Replace the relay. After the relay has been replaced, verify that the new relay corrected the problem before operating the machine.STOPTest Step 2. Check the harness for an openThe key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the J2 machine harness connector from the ECM.
Disconnect the 2-pin connector from the relay.
Install a jumper wire on the two pins of the machine harness connector for the relay.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from signal contact J2-2 wire (308-YL(Yellow)) to frame ground. Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open in the machine harness.Repair: Refer to Electrical System Schematic, KENR8916. Examine all of the connectors for possible locations of an open. For information on testing for open circuits and finding open circuits, refer to Troubleshooting, "Wiring Harness (Open Circuit) - Test". Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. Check the status of the diagnostic code
Inspect the harness connectors. Clean the contacts of the harness connectors and check the wires for damage to the insulation. Damage is caused by excessive heat, battery acid, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires that are associated with the circuit.
Reconnect all harness connectors in order to make sure that the connectors are fully seated. Also, make sure that the clips for each connector are fastened.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the
