Remove & Install Rocker Shaft Assemblies & Push Rods
Start By:a. remove valve covers and spark plugs 1. Remove bolts (1), lift shaft (2) and the rocker arms off of the valve cover base and the push rods. Put identification marks on push rods as to their location in the engine.2. Remove push rods (4) from the valve lifters and valve cover base.3. Remove bridge assemblies (3). The following steps are for the installation on the rocker shaft assemblies and push rods.4. Loosen the adjustment nuts and screws on valve bridges (3).5. Put clean engine oil the bridge dowels, the inside diameter of valve bridges (3) and on the top pad of the valve bridge. Install valve bridges (3) on the bridge dowels.6. While valve bridges (3) are pushed straight down with a force of 25 20 N (5.6 4.5 lb) on the top contact surface, turn the adjustment screw until it makes contact with the valve stem. Turn the adjustment screw another 20° to 30°. This will straighten the dowel in the guide and compensate for the clearance (slack) in the threads.7. Hold the adjustment screw in position and tighten the nut around the adjustment screw to a torque of 30 4 N m (22 3 lb ft).8. Apply 8T2998 Camshaft Lubricant on both sides of push rods (4) and install the push rods in the valve lifters and valve cover.
Make sure the crankshaft and camshafts are in time with each other and that the adjustment screws in the rocker arms are turned all the way out before the rocker shaft bolts are tightened or damage to the valves or pistons can be the be the result. 9. Install the rocker arms and shaft (2) on the valve cover. Make sure the rocker shafts and push rods are aligned. Install bolts (1) and tighten to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 11 lb ft).10. Make an adjustment of the valves to have a clearance of 0.51 mm (.020 in) for intake, and 1.02 mm (.040 in) for exhaust.
