Remove the engine and generator.
Separate the engine and generator.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Remove bolts (1) that hold the connector for the engine oil pump to engine oil pan (2). Remove the O-ring seal.

Improper lift rigging can allow unit to tumble causing injury and damage.
Remove bolts (3) that connect engine oil pan (2) to the cylinder block.
Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine lifting eyes.
The weight of the 3512 Engine is approximately 6800 kg (15000 lb). The weight of the engine oil pan is approximately 295 kg (650 lb).
The weight of the 3516 Engine is approximately 9100 kg (20000 lb). The weight of the engine oil pan is approximately 410 kg (900 lb).
Lift the engine from the engine oil pan.

Remove oil pan gasket (4) from the engine oil pan. Installation Procedure
Install engine oil pan (2) in the reverse order of removal.
Clean the sealing surfaces of the engine oil pan and the cylinder block.
Apply Tooling (A) to oil pan gasket (4).
Install Tooling (C) in engine oil pan (2) in order to guide the installation.
Apply Tooling (B) to the O-ring seal on the connector.
