March 2000 CHROME ENGINE COMPONENTS FOR ON-HIGHWAY TRUCK ENGINES 3406 B&C AND 3406E WITH THE SERIAL NUMBER PREFIX OF 5EK OR 6TS AnnouncementThe Caterpillar Remanufactured Products Group announces the expansion of the Reman product line to include chrome components for on-highway truck engines 3406 B&C and 3406E with the serial number prefix of 5EK or 6TS. CoverageThe addition of the following Remanufactured components provides customers with a way to enhance the appearance and value of their Caterpillar engines. The valve cover kits listed below for the 3406E each contain 1 valve cover and the gasket and bolts required for installation. The proper installation will be any combination of the 3, depending on the current engine configuration. The valve cover kit listed below for the 3406 B&C includes both valve covers, gaskets, and bolts needed for the installation. Care should be taken to insure you order the correct parts and that you order all parts needed for the complete installation, Plug Kit, Breather Kit, Oil Fill Kit, etc. Chromed Rocker Bases are available separately for the 3406E depending on the location of the electronic control module and are not included in the valve cover kits. A chromed Jake Brake Base is also available separately for 3406 B&C and is not included in Valve Cover Kit 0R9832. The new part numbers listed on the next page are not chromed and are for acceptable core reference only. Valve covers that have been previously chromed will be acceptable as core.

Core Acceptance
Core Acceptance Criteria for Caterpillar? Remanufactured components are simple, visual, and require no special tools. Full core credit is issued when the core is complete, fully assembled when applicable, not welded, not cracked or broken, no non-operational damage and has an acceptable part number. Only the valve covers mentioned above or a similar cover cover are allowed to be returned for core credit. The only criterion for the core acceptance is that you return a like core. Caterpillar part numbers may vary due to many years of parts being covered by the new chrome components.
