Start By:a. remove transmission and transfer gears *b. remove rear suspension cylindersc. remove rear axle stabilizer rod*This operation is in the 785B Truck Power Train Disassembly And Assembly section. 1. Disconnect wire harness (2). Remove the bolts that hold clips (1) to the rear frame support, and move the wire harness away from the support. 2. Disconnect hose assemblies (3), (4) and (5). Put plugs and caps on all openings. 3. Disconnect hoses (6) and (7) from the automatic electronic traction aid control valve. Put plugs or caps on all openings. 4. Remove bolt (8) that holds the clip and hose assembly (9) to the rear frame support. Move the hose assembly away from the rear frame support. 5. Put identification on lubrication lines (12) for assembly purposes. Disconnect eleven lubrication lines (12) from the manifold.6. Remove bolts (10) and (11), and move the lubrication lines away from the rear axle housing. 7. Disconnect hose assemblies (14) from each side of the axle housing. Put plugs and caps on all openings.8. Connect tooling (A) to parking brake pressure taps (13) on each side of the rear axle housing.
Typical Example9. Fasten a hoist to the front of the rear frame support.10. Fasten a lift truck to the rear axle housing as shown.
3450 kPa (500 psi) maximum pressure is permitted to release the parking brake.
11. Use tooling (A) to release the parking brake. 12. Disconnect lubrication line (17) from the rear frame support.13. Remove eight bolts (16) that hold two caps (15) to the frame.14. Use the lift truck and the hoist to move the rear frame support and axle housing assembly from the vehicle. 15. Remove caps (15) and rings (22) from each end of pin (21).16. Remove pin (21) from the bearing.17. Remove 12 bolts (20), plate (18) and plate (19) from the rear frame support.18. If necessary, remove bearing (23) from the rear frame support.Install Rear Frame Support & Axle Housing Assembly
1. If bearing (7) was removed from the rear frame support, install the bearing in the support.2. Put plates (2) and (3) in position on the rear frame support, and install 12 bolts (4). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 18 lb ft).3. Install pin (5) in bearing (7). Put rings (6) and caps (1) in position on each side of pin (5).
Typical Example4. Fasten a hoist to the front of the rear frame support.5. Fasten a lift truck to the rear axle housing as shown.
3450 kPa (500 psi) maximum pressure is permitted to release the parking brakes.
6. Use tooling (A) to release the parking brakes. 7. Use the hoist and lift truck, and move the rear frame support and axle housing assembly into position under the vehicle.8. Align caps (1) with the holes in the frame, and install eight bolts (8). Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 1125 100 (820 75 lb ft).9. Release the pressure to the parking brakes, and remove tooling (A).10.
