Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: A location of all the sensors is shown so that the sensors can be removed and/or identified in the event of a failure.

Location of engine sensors
(1) Engine coolant pump pressure switch (inlet pressure)
(2) Detonation sensor
(3) Actuator pressure switch
(4) Inlet air temperature sensor
(5) Engine coolant temperature sensor
The engine coolant pump pressure switch (1) is a pressure switch that is located at the inlet for the engine jacket water.
The detonation sensors (2) are located in the cylinder block. There is one sensor for every two cylinders.
The actuator pressure switch (3) is located on the throttle control valve.
The inlet air temperature sensor (4) is located in the elbow before the number one cylinder head.
The engine coolant temperature sensor (5) is located in the water temperature regulator housing.

The pressure sensor (6) for unfiltered oil is located in the engine oil filter housing.
The pressure sensor (7) for filtered oil is located in the engine oil filter housing.
The engine coolant pressure sensor (outlet) (8) is located at the outlet for the engine jacket water.
The oxygen sensor (9) is located in the adapter for the exhaust manifold elbow.
The manifold air pressure sensor (10) is connected to the air inlet manifold.
The engine oil temperature sensor (11) is located in an elbow in front of the number two cylinder head.
The oxygen buffer (12) is located on the flywheel housing.
The speed/timing sensor (13) is located on the rear end of the left camshaft.

(14) Thermocouple for the temperature of the cylinder exhaust port
(15) Thermocouple for the temperature of the exhaust inlet to the turbocharger
(16) Thermocouple for the temperature of the exhaust outlet from the turbocharger turbine
Thermocouple (14) is mounted in each cylinder head.
Thermocouple (15) is mounted at the inlet for the exhaust gas of each turbocharger turbine.
Thermocouple (16) is mounted at the outlet for the exhaust gas of each turbocharger turbine.
