preparatory steps: a) remove engineb) remove flywheel housing1. Raise the flywheel end of the engine.2. Remove seven oil pan plate-to-pump drive housing mounting bolts and loosen the remaining oil pan and oil pan plate mounting bolts. 3. Install suitable spacers (4), on each side of the engine between the oil pan plate and mating surface of the cylinder block.4. Remove crankshaft gear (3) and pump drive gear (1). 5. Remove two idler gear retaining bolts (2). Remove shaft (6) and idler gear (5). 6. Remove two pump drive housing retaining bolts (7) and remove pump drive housing (8).7. Using tool setup (A), remove the bearings from pump drive housing and flywheel housing.8. Using tool setup (B), remove bearing from idler gear.Install Pump Drive Group
1. Using tool setup (B), install the bearing in the idler gear so the reliefs in bearing align with reliefs in gear. The bearing must not project beyond either face of the gear. 2. Using tool setup (A), install the bearing in pump drive housing. Install the bearing so it will be recessed .06 in. (1,52 mm) from the outside face of housing. Install the bearing in flywheel housing so it will be recessed .03 in. (0,76 mm) from the outside face of housing.3. Position the pump drive housing on the engine and install retaining bolts. Trim the pump drive housing-to-cylinder block gasket flush with oil pan face of cylinder block.4. Lubricate idler gear bearing with SAE 30 engine oil and install idler gear, retaining plate and retaining bolts.5. Lubricate pump drive group bearings with SAE 30 engine oil. Install pump drive gear and crankshaft gear.6. Remove the spacers from between the cylinder block and oil pan plate. 7. Install the oil pan plate-to-pump drive housing mounting bolts. Tighten the remaining oil pan and oil pan plate mounting bolts.8. Lower the engine into place.concluding step: a) install flywheel housingb) install engine
