Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Cleaner - Remove and Install" in this module.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7247, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cover all ports in order to prevent contamination of the system during the disassembly procedure.

Remove four nuts, washers, and bolts (1) that connect the crossover tube to the aftercooler. Remove the gasket.

Remove seven bolts and washers (2) and remove bracket (3) from the machine.

Remove 17 bolts and washers (4) from the cover of the aftercooler. Move clips (5) and brackets out of the way.
Remove fitting (6) from the cover.
Remove the cover of the aftercooler and remove the gasket.

Remove eight bolts (7) and disconnect two coolant lines (8) from the aftercooler. Remove the two O-ring seals.

Remove four fittings (9) from the end of the aftercooler. Remove one fitting at a time. Remove the O-ring seals.
Remove heat exchanger core (10) and the gasket from the aftercooler.

Remove four bolts and washers (11) from the bottom sides of the aftercooler. Disconnect electrical connector (12) .

Remove six bolts and washers (13) with O-ring seals from the aftercooler housing. Remove the aftercooler housing from the machine. Remove the O-ring seal.
