GAUGE AS-OIL LEVEL (DIPSTICK) 3509492 - Caterpillar

(1) The 4N7692 and 4N7693 Crankshaft Assemblies were the original service replacement crankshaft assemblies for earlier model 3304 and 3306 Engines with Serial Numbers 78P1-78P60566 and 3N1-Up. These crankshafts had either a 7N4525 or a 1W9812 Crankshaft Gear. See the Parts Book to find the specific part number.(2) A 4N7692, 4N7693, 2W7960 or 2W7458 Crankshaft Assembly is available as a service replacement crankshaft for 3304 or 3306 Engines with the Serial Numbers given in the charts that follow. (3) The 2W7960 and 2W7458 Crankshaft Assemblies have a 1W4405 Crankshaft Gear (1) that has gear teeth of the width shown by the dimensions in the illustration. The gear teeth on the 1W4405 Crankshaft Gear (1) are wider than the gear teeth on either the 7N4525 Gear or the 1W9812 Gear that is on the 4N7692 or 4N7693 Crankshaft Assembly.(4) 3304 and 3306 Vehicular Engines, and most 3306 Truck Engines, use a 7N9589 Trunnion Group instead of an adapter for the crankshaft front seal. The 2W7960 or 2W7458 Crankshaft can be used as a replacement crankshaft for an engine that has a 7N9589 Trunnion Group.(5) A 2W7960 or 2W7458 Crankshaft Assembly can also be installed in an engine that has a 1W4506 Seal Adapter for the crankshaft front seal. For those earlier 3304 or 3306 Engines that have a 3N1463 Seal Adapter, the 3N1463 Seal Adapter must be removed, and a 1W4506 Seal Adapter must be installed as a replacement before either the 2W7960 or 2W7458 Crankshaft Assembly can be installed as the replacement crankshaft.
Before installation of the crankshaft, do the complete procedure that is given in Special Instruction Form SMHS8468. CLEANING AND PREPARATION OF SERVICE REPLACEMENT CRANKSHAFT.
When installing a service replacement crankshaft for a 3304 Engine, remove the bolt that fastens the engine oil pump scavenge tube to the oil pan plate, and install the 4F29 Bolt in its place.
