Introduction
When the words "use again" are in the description, the specification given can be used to determine if A part can be used again If the part is equal to or within the specification given, use the part againWhen the word "permissible" is in the description, the specification given is the "maximum or minimum" tolerance permitted before adjustment, repair and/or new parts are needed.A comparison can be made between the measurements of a worn part and the specifications of a new part to find the amount of wear. A part that is worn can be safe to use if an estimate of the remainder of its service life is good. If a short service life is expected, replace the part.Reference: For complete Specifications with illustrations, Systems Operation and Testing and Adjusting procedures, make reference to 518 SKIDDER Service Manual, Form No. REGO0971.
Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting:
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location. Move away from working machines and personnel and lower implements to the ground.2. Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel either away from the machine or in view of the operator.3. Activate the parking brake.4. Stop the engine.5. Move the hydraulic control levers to all positions to release the pressure in the hydraulic system.Procedure
When defining a problem, the following procedures should be followed. First, do the VISUAL CHECKS. If when complete, the problem has not been identified, do the INSTRUMENT TESTS. This procedure will help identify the problems.Dual Horsepower
Make reference to S on the first page of the Testing and Adjusting section.
Visual Checks
A visual inspection of the dual horsepower system is the first step when a diagnosis of a problem is made. Stop the engine, lower the implements to the ground and activate the parking brake. Make the following inspections:1. Check the actuator switch for loose or broken loose wires.2. Check the actuator switch for loose or missing bolts.3. Check the rack adjusting solenoid for loose or broken wires.Instrument Tests
Make reference to S on the first page of the Testing and Adjusting section.
Instrument test on the dual horsepower system and its components is the final step when diagnosing a problem. Test results should verify the status of a component. Adjusting procedures are provided where needed. Actuator Switch6V3030 Digital MultimeterWith the attachments lowered to the ground, engine stopped and the parking brake engaged.
Actuator Switch Test
(1) Multimeter. (2) Actuator switch terminals. (3) Actuator switch. (4) Transmission speed lever. (5) Cover bolts. (6) Bracket.1. Place the speed selector handle in first speed.2. Remove the control wire and ground wire from the actuator switch terminals (2).3. Connect the multimeter (1) to the actuator switch terminals of the actuator switch.4. Check for continuity across the actuator switch terminals. The switch should be open.5. If the actuator switch (3) is closed loosen cover bolts (5) and move bracket (6) away from transmission speed
