Ensure that the transport guard is installed on the felling head.
Ensure that the hydraulic oil in the system is at normal operating temperature. To warm the hydraulic oil, run the saw at low engine idle for 10 minutes.
Move the tilt cylinder in and out for five repetitions in order to make sure that there is warm oil in the tilt cylinder.
Tilt the felling head to the left and lower the head to the ground. Turn the saw blade control switch to the OFF position. Stop the engine.Note: The head should not be in the vertical position.
Place support blocks or cribbing under the felling head.
To prevent dirt and contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. This action also lessens the chance of oil spills.

(1) Hose assembly. (2) Union. (3) Tilt cylinder.
Disconnect hose assembly (1) from union (2) .
Install 6V-9509 Face Seal Plug onto the end of hose assembly (1) .
Install 6V-9830 Cap onto union (2) .
Start the engine and raise the felling head off the ground approximately 1 m (3.3 ft).
Place the tilt control lever and the lift control lever in the HOLD position and shut off the engine.
Measure the amount of rod movement in 1 minute. For a new tilt cylinder, the maximum rod movement in 1 minute is 3 mm (.12 inch). If the cylinder drift meets the specification, the tilt cylinder is not causing the drift problem. If there is too much drift, the tilt cylinder has an internal leak. Look for a scored cylinder and/or worn piston seals when you disassemble the cylinder.
Start the engine and lower the felling head to the ground.
Shut off the engine.
Release the hydraulic oil pressure from the hydraulic system.ReferenceTesting and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".
Carefully remove the plug and the cap. Connect hose assembly (1) to union (2) .
