On the predecessor models, in order to operate the extender height to the extreme limits of travel as a check was common practice. The new design of the extender height system is different than the predecessor model of screeds. The extender height is located by a threaded adjuster on each corner of the extender plate. Due to slight differences in the adjuster system, the mechanism can get jammed if the extreme upper and lower limits are reached.

View from the rear of the left-hand screed extender (C) 3B-8489 Grease Fitting (D) 390-7798 Ball Joint Grease each of the three grease fittings (C) on the height adjuster mechanism. Failure to grease fittings (C) can make the screed extender stick and bind. Periodically apply grease to the threads of ball joints (D). Refer to Illustration 2.Note: Each screed extender has two height adjuster mechanisms that will need to be greased.

View from underneath the left-hand screed extender (E) BoltsAfter greasing fittings (C) and ball joints (D) on the height adjuster mechanism, verify if the extender height is still sticking. If the extender height is still sticking in a normal working range, loosen and retighten four large bolts (E) that connect the height mechanisms to the screed frame. Loosening and retightening four large bolts (E) will recenter the height mechanism. Refer to illustration 3.
