Self-powered hour meters are available for use as service replacements for many machines and engines. The self-powered hour meter (replacement meter kit) is adaptable to any engine that has a 5/8"-18 threaded hole in the flywheel housing so that a magnetic pickup (power generating unit) can be installed close to the flywheel teeth. The power generation unit provides power to run the hour meter. A replacement meter kit may be used to replace a 12 or 24 volt powered hour meter or a mechanically driven service meter.
Two replacement meter kits (to match the panels) and two power generating units are available. Either replacement meter kit may be used with either power generating unit. The 9W1492 Replacement Meter Kit contains an hour meter with a metallic bezel and a wire assembly. The wire assembly converts the meter to a two pin Sure-Seal® connector. The 9W1495 Replacement Meter Kit contains an hour meter with a black bezel and the same wire assembly as the 9W1492 Kit. The 5N9292 Power Generating Unit has a Sure-Seal connector with a female housing. The 6T9688 Power Generating Unit has a Sure-Seal connector with a male housing. Both power generating units have 5/8"-18 threaded ends.
To install a replacement meter kit, order either a 9W1492 or 9W1495 Replacement Meter Kit and either a 5N9292 or 6T9688 Power Generating Unit. A 6V3000 Sure-Seal Repair Kit and an 18 gauge, two conductor, insulated wire will be needed to complete the wiring between the meter and the power generating unit. Use the procedure that follows to install the replacement meter kit and power generating unit.
Procedure To Install Replacement Meter Kit And Power Generating Unit
1. Install the replacement meter kit in the desired location.2. Install the power generating unit with its locknut in the 5/8"-18 threaded hole in the flywheel housing. Screw the unit in until the tip on the unit contacts a tooth on the flywheel then back the unit out one-half turn. This will provide the correct clearance between the power generating unit and the flywheel.3. Tighten the locknut on the power generating unit to a torque of 45 7 N m (33 5 lb ft).4. Measure the amount of 18 gauge, two conductor wire needed to complete the electrical circuit between the Sure-Seal connector on the meter wire assembly and the Sure-Seal connector on the power generating unit. Use the 6V3000 Sure-Seal Repair Kit to install the correct Sure-Seal connectors on each end of the 18 gauge wire.
