Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the exhaust manifold.
Remove the fuel lines and the fuel rail.
Remove the return fuel manifold.
Remove the primary and secondary fuel filter base.
Remove the inlet manifold.
Remove the rocker arm and shaft.
Remove the unit injectors.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bracket (1) and support assembly (2) . Remove bracket assemblies (3) .

Remove pulley (4) and remove the fan drive assembly. Remove alternator and compressor mounting assembly (5) .

Remove brackets (6) and remove bolts (7) .

Remove bolts (8) and remove bolts (10) .
Attach a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (9) . The weight of cylinder head (9) is approximately 147 kg (325 lb). Remove cylinder head (9) and the gasket.Installation Procedure
Install cylinder head (9) in the reverse order of removal.

Bolt tightening sequence for bolts (8) and (10) .Note: Lubricate the bolts with clean engine oil prior to assembly.
Tighten bolts (1) through (26) to a torque of 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
Retighten bolts (1) through (26) to a torque of 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
Turn bolts (1) through (26) an additional 90°.
Loosen bolts (1) through (26) to a torque of 0 N m (0 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 1.a through 1.c.
Tighten bolts (27) through (32) to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).
