Install the lip seal in retainer (17) with Tooling (A) . Install the seal with the seal lip toward the inside of the retainer. Put a thin layer of SAE 30W oil on the seal lip.

Put shaft assembly (20) in position in the converter. Install a new gasket between retainer (17) and carrier (23) .

Put the retainer in position on the carrier. Install bolts (16) and lockwashers that secure the retainer on the carrier. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).

Install two O-ring seals (18) on the carrier.

Rotate the converter assembly by 180 degrees. Use a hammer and a soft punch in order to install bearing race (67) on hub (54) .

Install washer (20) , plate (15) , and bolts (14) . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 75 7 N m (55 5 lb ft).

Install torque converter pilot hub (12) on housing (13) .

Install bolts (11) that fasten the torque converter pilot hub to the housing. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 46 3 N m (34 3 lb ft).

Rotate the converter by 180 degrees. Install two 1/2 " - 13 NC guide pins in the carrier. Install Tooling (C) on cover (2) . Attach a hoist to Tooling (C) . Install the cover on the torque converter. The weight of the cover is 153 kg (338 lb). Remove the guide pins.

Install bolts (8) and the lockwashers that secure cover (2) to the converter.

Put flange (5) in position on the shaft. Measure the distance between the end of shaft (20) and the shoulder on the flange (5) .

Install O-ring seal (6) in flange (5) . Assemble shim pack (7) with a thickness of 0.13 mm (0.005 inch) to 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) less than the dimension in Step . Install bolt (3) and hard washer (4) . Tighten the bolt to a torque of 270 14 N m (200 10 lb ft).
