SAFETY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE SELF LEVELER VALVE
MODELS INVOLVED - 246C AND 256C SKID STEER LOADER, 277C MULTI TERRAIN LOADERS, AND 279C COMPACT TRACK LOADERS
Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The self leveler valve needs to be reworked on the products listed below. The cap on the existing valve can crack and release oil, resulting in an uncommanded release of the load. Such an event, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, may result in a risk of personal injury or death. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 03Jun2010 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed for your added safety and satisfaction.

Rework Procedure
1. Raise the lift arms and install safety brace.
2. Unbolt the cab and raise.
3. Place an oil dry mat under the self level valve.
4. Use a 11/16" wrench and break the cap loose on the self level valve and remove.

5. Inspect orifice for debris.

6. Install the new cap. Turn the cap until the o-ring is seated and then tighten the cap to a torque of 55 Nm +5/-0.
7. If needed, touch up the paint on the cap.

8. Clean up any spilled hydraulic oil and check hydraulic fluid level. Add oil if needed.
9. Lower the cab and cycle the lift arms.
10. Raise the cab and inspect for leaks.
11. Lower the cab and bolt down. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 125 +/- 15 Nm.
