Working With the Compactor
Refer to the general instructions for moving the compactor.
Compaction
Select the required travel speed range by moving the selector switch (1).Select direction of travel by moving transmission control lever (2) in the desired direction. The speed of the machine is relative to the displacement of the control lever and the selected speed range. As the lever is moved further away from the neutral (center) position, the machine speed increases. As the lever is moved closer to the neutral (center) position the machine speed decreases.Full machine speed of the selected speed range is not reached until the lever is fully displaced. When the machine begins to move, start the vibration by depressing vibration switch (3). Before stopping machine travel, turn vibration switch OFF.
Never leave the vibration control on when passing over concrete or hard pavement.
Select a flat level area to park the machine, ensure the parking brake is applied for safety reasons, stop the Diesel engine before carrying this operation, this ensures that, the eccentric can not accidently be driven thus the key.
The machine may be equipped with a triple amplitude system. The different positions of the eccentric are obtained by changing the position of the mobile eccentric. This is obtained by using a special key engaged in the adjusting disc, two lugs on the key fit into slots in the adjusting disc (ex.: position 2 - 2 slots). To adjust the eccentric, pull the key and turn, rotate the eccentric to the required position retrospective to the markings on the adjusting disc, push in to engage, remove the key.- Begin the first passes along the sides of the work, subsequent passes gradually working towards the center overlapping the previous pass by approximately 20 cm (7.75 inches) to eliminate any chance of uncompacted strips.- Check that the amplitude and frequency values being used are correct. Carry out a short test before using the machine on the job.- Compaction should be carried out without any interruption. The travel speed should not be changed, it should remain constant throughout the length of the pass.- Select the correct travel speed (approximately 3 to 6 km/h).- Drive in a straight line.- Progressively start, stop and reverse direction.- Don't brake the machine quickly, let it come to a gradual stop.- Only change strip when it is completely compacted. Don't turn around or change direction on an uncompacted strip.- Ensure the drum is clean, and free of any debris.- Ensure that the drum scrapers are correctly adjusted.- Respect the number of vibration passes as given in the specifications, do not over compact as this will cause cracking and possible segregation of the material.
If excessive vibration is found at the level of the operators compartment, check the rubber isolation blocks fitted between the vibratory drums and the machine frame.Replace straight away any that are found defective, otherwise further deterioration will take place causing operator discomfort and possible machine damage.
Operation on Slopes
Turning on a slope will reduce the stability of the machine and could result in tip
