Schematic for the dual speed controlThis diagnostic code is associated with the dual speed control. The dual speed control is connected to two inputs of the Power Train/Chassis Electronic Control Module (ECM). One contact is open and the other contact is grounded during proper operation.This FMI 03 means that the ECM has determined that the normally open contact and the normally closed contact are open.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 1695 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.System Response:When this diagnostic code occurs, the ECM will limit the machine to reduced speed mode.Test Step 1. CHECK THE DUAL SPEED CONTROL
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness connector for the dual speed control place a jumper wire from contact 5 (wire R986-BU) to contact 12 (wire C209-BK).
The status of the diagnostic code changes as the jumper wire is installed and the jumper wire is removed.
Remove jumper wire that was installed in previous Test Step.
At the machine harness connector for the dual speed control place a jumper wire from contact 6 (wire R985-WH) to contact 12 (wire C209-BK).
The status of the diagnostic code changes as the jumper wire is installed and the jumper wire is removed.Expected Result:If the dual speed control is not the cause of the diagnostic code, the diagnostic code remains active. If the dual speed control has failed, the diagnostic remains not active.Results:
YES - The diagnostic code remains active the dual speed control has not failed. Proceed to Test Step 2
NO - The diagnostic changes from an active state to an inactive state. The dual speed control has failed.Repair: Repeat this test "CHECK THE DUAL SPEED CONTROL" in order to verify that the dual speed control has failed. Replace the dual speed control.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the dual speed control place a jumper wire from contact 5 (wire R986-BU) to contact 6 (wire C209-BK).
At the J2 machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from the signal contact J2-62 (wire R986-BU) to frame ground.
Remove jumper wire that was installed in previous Test Step.
At the machine harness connector for the dual speed control place a jumper wire from contact 6 (wire R985-WH) to contact 4 (wire C209-BK).
At the J2 machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from the signal contact J2-61 (wire R985-WH) to frame ground.Expected Result:The resistance that is measured is less than 5 ohms.Results:
YES - Each resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The resistance measurements is greater than 5 ohms. There is an open in
