Introduction
If the swing brake is not adequate for the job requirements, adjust the torque of the swing brake. The torque is adjusted by changing the pistons. The pistons provide the following types of braking:
Weak
Normal
HardRequired Tools
Pistons
All machines are equipped with a standard piston. The braking torque is controlled by the depth of the groove on the head end of the piston. A piston with a deeper groove will increase the braking torque. The groove depth is marked on the head end of the piston.Pistons are available to adjust the braking torque in one of the following ways:
Increase
Decrease 139-9222 PistonBraking torque ... NormalGroove depth ... 1.0 mm (0.039 inch) 139-9223 PistonBraking torque ... WeakGroove depth ... 0.8 mm (0.032 inch) 139-9224 PistonBraking torque ... HardGroove depth ... 1.35 mm (0.053 inch)Machine Preparation
Clear all personnel from the machine and from the area around the machine.
Start the engine.

Engine speed dial
Set the engine speed dial at "10".
Lower the left console.
Position the machine on level ground. Check the visibility and adjust the mirrors for the best vision close to the machine.
Fully depress the service brake pedal until the service brake pedal locks mechanically.
Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 46 to 80° C (115 to 176° F).

Hydraulic modulation medium mode (monitor display)
Select the hydraulic modulation mode as medium. Press the lower front switch on the left joystick to select the hydraulic modulation mode.
The air conditioning should be turned off for the following procedures.Test Procedure
Move the joystick to the RIGHT or the LEFT position and allow the upper structure to rotate for one rotation.
Repeat Step 1 in the opposite direction.
Fully extend the bucket cylinder and place the bucket on the ground.
Stop the engine.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.Note: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".
Raise the left console.
If the swing brake is not adequate for the job requirements, adjust the torque of the swing brake. Proceed to "Adjustment Procedure" in order to install the desired piston.Adjustment Procedure

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection,
