Remove the gear pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Gear Pump (Implement, Steering, Brake) - Remove". Note: SERVICE DATA: TOOLING (ZZ) WILL NOT BE IDENTIFIED IN PHOTOGRAPHS IN THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. THIS TOOLING IS SHOWN IN ORDER TO ASSIST THE EXPERIENCED SERVICEMAN.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Disconnect harness assemblies (1), (4), and (4A).
Remove bolts (3).
Place governor control (2) aside.

Remove bolts (6).
Place fuel filter assembly (8) aside.
Disconnect harness assembly (9).
Remove guard assemblies (5) and (7).

Remove bottom guard (10).

Disconnect hose assemblies (11).

Disconnect connector (13).
Disconnect harness assembly (14).
Disconnect hose assemblies (16).
Disconnect tube assembly (15).

Attach a suitable lifting device to piston pump (18).
Remove bolts (17) in order to remove piston pump (18). The weight of the piston pump is approximately 70 kg (155 lb).

Remove bolt (19) in order to remove coupling (20) from piston pump (18).
