When a hydraulic line is disconnected from the cushion-hitch pump, make sure to keep the disconnected end of the hydraulic line above the level of the cushion-hitch pump. This will prevent hydraulic oil from draining out of the body of the cushion-hitch pump while the engine is not running.
Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" before you begin the test.

When the parts in the pump become worn, the amount of oil leakage increases. The amount of oil leakage through drain oil line (3) is an indication of the condition of the pump.
Make sure that the hydraulic oil tank is filled with hydraulic oil. Start the engine. Run the engine until the temperature of the hydraulic oil is 63°C (145°F) to 68°C (155°F).
Make sure that the cushion ride is turned off. Stop the engine.
Disconnect the end of drain line (3) from the hydraulic oil tank. Place the disconnected end of drain line (3) into a large can. Install a 9S-8005 Plug into the open port in the hydraulic oil tank.
Start the engine. Operate the engine at high idle. Turn on the cushion ride. Leave the cushion ride on for the duration of this step. Wait for 5 seconds. Move the disconnected end of drain line (3) into another empty can for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, move the disconnected end of drain line (3) back into the first can. Turn off the cushion ride. Stop the engine.
Measure the volume of the leakage oil that flowed into the can during the time period of 30 seconds. If the volume of the leakage oil significantly exceeds 4.2 L (4.40 qt), piston pump (4) is excessively worn.
Remove the 9S-8005 Plug from the hydraulic oil tank. Connect drain line (3) into the open port in the hydraulic oil tank. Fill the hydraulic oil tank with hydraulic oil before the engine is started.
