8S4627 or 8T0500 Circuit (Continuity) TesterMost of the connections between harnesses, and between harnesses and components, are made with rubber "Sure Seal" connectors. If these connections are not tight, they can cause either continuous or intermittent problems. Make sure all connectors in a problem circuit are fastened tightly before other tests are made.
8T0900 AC/DC Clamp-On AmmeterThe 5P7277 Voltage Tester can be used to check if voltage is present in a circuit. It has a lamp that is lighted when there is voltage present in the range of 12 to 30 volts.The 8S4627 or 8T0500 Circuit Tester can be used to check circuits without voltage for continuity. The lamp will indicate continuity with as much as 10 ohms resistance in a circuit. The lamp will not light with more than approximately 10 ohms in a circuit.A Caterpillar Digital Multimeter (there are several different models available) can be used to measure voltage, resistance, or current. The multimeter can be used to measure up to 10 amps of continuous AC or DC current.The 8T0900 AC/DC Clamp On Ammeter can be used to measure current from 1 to 1200 amps. This can be useful in testing starting and charging circuits. It allows electrical current measurements to be made without breaking the circuit or disturbing the insulation on conductors up to 19 mm (.75 in.) in diameter.
