Insert 146-3271 Extension Rod (4) into body (3). Snap ring (10) on the extension rod fits inside the body.
Thread lower end of 5P-4814 Clamp Collet (2) onto body (3) and tighten.
Fully insert 6V-3075 Dial Indicator (1) or 1U-8869 Dial Indicator (both dealer supplied) into 5P-4814 Clamp Collet (2). Tighten the upper end of the clamp collet to secure the indicator to body (3) .
Insert the lower end of body (3) into 326-7698 Base Assembly (7). Use a 3 mm (0.12 inch) Allen wrench (dealer supplied) to tighten the upper set screw into locator hole (A) in the body.Note: On C175 Engines, only use the upper set screw on 326-7698 Base Assembly (7) to locate body (3).

Make sure the magnetic bottom of base assembly (7) is clean. NO metal particles sticking to magnet.
Select 326-7689 Projection Gage Block (intake) (8) or 326-7693 Projection Gage Block (exhaust) (9) .Note: The gage block is Laser etched with part number, INTAKE or EXHAUST, and dimension, for easy identification.
Push (retract) extension rod (4) into body (3) and hold while carefully placing base assembly (7) onto projection gage block (8) or (9). Once the base assembly firmly attaches to the gage block, release (extend) the extension rod.
Zero the indicator.
Turn the face of 6V-3075 Dial Indicator to "ZERO".
Push the "ON/OFF" button to turn "ON" the 1U-8869 Digital Indicator , then push the "ZERO/ABS" button to reset the readout to "ZERO".
Follow the specific testing procedure covered in the appropriate service manual to:
Remove the valve cover from the engine.
Carefully remove the tool group from projection gage block (6) and gently place the tool on a valve rotator. Extension rod (4) should be touching the top deck of the cylinder head.
Read the valve rotator projection value from the dial indicator/digital indicator and record the number.
Repeat the procedure on the next valve.Note: Occasionally place the tool back on reference projection gage block (6) to verify the "ZERO" setting. If necessary, make sure magnetic base assembly (5) or (7) is clean. No metal particles sticking to magnet. Make sure the set screw in the base assembly is correctly tightened in locator hole (A) on body (3). Recheck all valve recession measurements to verify accuracy.Maintenance Section
