Install the body retaining pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pin (Body Retaining) - Remove and Install".
Remove the transmission planetary and transfer gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Planetrary and Transfer Gears - Remove".
Remove the axle shafts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the oil from the differential into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change".

Remove bolts (1), cover (2), and shims (3).

Install Tooling (A) to pin (4). Use Tooling (A) in order to remove pin (4) and the seal.

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to differential carrier assembly (5). The weight of differential carrier assembly (5) is approximately 499 kg (1100 lb).
Remove bolts (6) that hold differential carrier assembly (5) to the rear axle housing.
Install Tooling (C) to differential carrier assembly (5). Tighten Tooling (C) in order to separate differential carrier assembly (5) from the rear axle housing.
Remove differential carrier assembly (5) and the O-ring seal from the machine.
